Though internally tight and bright and fine, binding shows faint edgewear and a "flecking" typical of this title. First edition of the first volume (only) of this large compendium, the first two volumes history and the third an atlas. Though not so marked, from the library of Union brigadier general Mahlon D. Manson (1820-95), who had a colorful war career and then served Indiana in Congress (1871-73) and as lieutenant governor (1885-86). NEVINS I, 47.
