This is an ex-library copy with markings to the spine, endpapers and title pages, sold as a reference copy only. Quarto, 10 1/2" tall, xiii + 398 with intertextual black and white illustrations + 4 plates (clean and present), gilt spine titles on decorated maroon cloth. A fair, significantly worn hardcover first edition with general shelf wear and rubbing at the fore-corner tips, cover fore-edge margins dampstained and color faded, backstrip cloth loose at the back hinge; hinges broken; internal condition is good+ with binding solid but slightly canted, front endpaper and flyleaves loose but present; paper clean, lightly yellowed with some light foxing to the exterior fore-edges and light dampstaining to some margins (does not affect text). Useful as reference given clean interior.
