Newcastle: Longman and Rees, 1803. Third edition. Two volumes I: 346pp.; II: 400pp.. Small quarto (6" x 10"), full polished calf with four raised bands, recent black and brown gilt labels, and with blind devices in three panels. All edges marbled. Marbled endpapers, Turn-ins are decorated in blind. Early nineteenth century nameplate of Doune. Edges lightly worn. Covers scuffed. Minor occasional foxing. Volume one has been re-backed with the original spine. Labels are recent on both volumes. This edition has 15 additional illustrations as well as some text revisions. Beautiful wood engravings by Thomas Bewick (1753-1828) throughout. Volume I is the land birds, and volume II is the water birds.
