New York: C. A. Alvord, 1869. Near fine copy of rare second edition (1869). Green boards, gilt fore edge, gilt top and bottom of text block. Boards lightly bumped at upper tips. Gilt lettering on spine. Inside pastedown has attractive bookplate of William Thomaf Proprietor of Pennfylvania Bookf. Inside flyleaf has name and city of prior owner, dated April 23, 1894. Bright text and illustrations, tight text block. There are 22 illustrations. Frontis full page illustration of Slocum Hollow (Scranton) in 1840. Many full page illustrations of pioneer Lackawanna Valley leaders. Large illustration of the Delaware Water Gap. Burnt orange end papers, very tight binding. 442 pp. Extensive history of Lackawanna Valley. Must have book for Lackawanna Valley history enthusiasts. New York: C. A. Alvord, 1869. Fair condition, LACKING title page. NOT a library discard. Rear inner hinge cracked, but holding. Several pages have an old light waterstain, but no musty smell. Not in prime collector's condition but perfectly suitable for reading/reference. Original cloth, moderately worn at spine ends and corners. Pages are securely bound. Second Edition, "Thoroughly Modified and Revised" (from Preface). Well illustrated with a frontispiece engraving of Slocum Hollow (now Scranton) in 1840.
