The author was a Confederate general officer during the American Civil War. His most noted service in the war was as second-in-command for his brother-in-law John Hunt Morgan. Duke's lasting impact was as a historian and communicator of the Confederate experience. First 3 pages lightly foxed. Narrow bottom margin stain on last few pages, not affecting text. Prior owners ink stamp of "Essex Troop" Cavalry Library on front & rear end papers. Civil War, Confederacy, Kentucky. ; Map Illustrations. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 578 pages .
