Griffin was the County Historian of Rutherford County out of Forest City, North Carolina. Hardcover. Bound in black textured publisher's cloth, gilt lettering is stamped on the cover and spine. Endpapers contain a two-page spread of a Map of Rutherford County in 1783. Occasionally illustrated with photographic plates in black and white throughout. Frontispiece is a black and white photograph of the Rutherford County Court House, Rutherfordton, North Carolina, completed in 1926. Indexed. xv, 640 pp. <br><br>EXCERPT FROM THE INTRODUCTION: "Rutherford County and North Carolina have made wonderful strides in industrial, economic and intellectual development during the past quarter of a century. Rutherford County is no longer considered an 'average' county of the commonwealth. her rank in population, her textile and agricultural development, intellectual, cultural and economic growth place her among the foremost of the one hundred counties of the state. It is fitting that the men who have had a part in this development should not be forgotten." <br><br>CONDITION: Overall VG. Cover shows wear and some discoloration. Minor occasional annotation. Leaves have evenly toned and bear very little foxing, (predominantly within introductory pages). Back hinge is weakening, yet both boards remain well attached and binding is sound. Pagination is complete. A nice, very readable copy. Full refund if not satisfied.
