A history of New York 19th c. political figures with 11 Charles Currier lithographic portraits, including George Clinton (Governor), John Jay, Morgan Lewis, Daniel Tompkins, De Witt Clinton, Joseph Yates, Martin van Buren, Enos Throop, William Marcy, William Bouck, and Silas Wright.
Charles Currier was the brother of Nathaniel Currier who established a flourishing lithography firm in New York in 1835 which produced a noted range of images of mid to late 19th century America. Charles joined his brother in 1857 and added James M. Ives as business partner. The renowned firm made highly popular lithographs of city views, rural life, ships & railroads, domestic life, and portraits.
8vo, frontispiece, vii, 528pp, Index. Full brown calf, gilt title on red spine panel. Corners rubbed. Internally, fox spotting throughout heavy in places; residue of a stored leaf on the title page.
