Description:
1931 Aesop Fables Illustrated by Arthur Rackham Esoteric Fairy Tales Chesterton

"A doubtful friend is worse than a certain enemy. Let a man be one thing or the other, and we then know how to meet him."
― Aesop, Aesop's Fables
Aesop's fables have been printed for centuries and include some of the most famous fables and tales of all time. This first edition features 13 color tipped-in plates of Arthur Rackham art, including the frontispiece. It also has several in-text illustrations in black and white. Many of these illustrations depict animals personifying human qualities in a satirical or humorous manner.
Rackham art is highly desirable and has been used in numerous literary works. However, the illustrations in this printing are particularly notable. According to Hudson,
"Arthur Rackham's primary intention was to amuse…he was often his own model; there are several self-caricatures to be detected in Aesop's Fables. He is the man who catches the flea, the pompous gentleman who scolds the drowning… Read More

1884 FAIRY TALES Charles Perrault Illustrated Cinderella Puss Boots French Riding Hood

"A dream is a wish your heart makes."
― Charles Perrault, Cinderella

Charles Perrault was a 17th-century French author who is most-remembered for his fairy tales. When "Les Contes" was first written it was quite ahead of its time, and his writing helped lay the groundwork for a new literary genre that would become very popular throughout Europe of the next century. Many of his fairy tales include stories that are still popular today such as Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Puss in Boots, and Sleeping Beauty.
This printing is a fine, 19th-century printing that includes charming illustrations.

"Sylvie and Bruno" by Lewis Carroll, published in two volumes between 1889 and 1893, is a blend of Victorian-era reality and a fantasy world called Fairyland. The story transitions between political intrigues in Fairyland and a romantic subplot in Victorian Britain involving a young doctor named Arthur and his love, Lady Muriel Orme. WINNER OF THE PEGASUS PRIZE FOR LITERATURE AND THE BOOKER PRIZE. Used. Very Good/Very Good unclipped original $17.95 dust jacket. Summary: "The Bone People, first published in 1984 by Spiral, New Zealand. About this book: The Bone People is an unusual story of love. It is unusual in the telling, the subject matter, and the form of love that the story depicts. This is in no way a romance; it is filled with violence, fear, and twisted emotions. At the story's core, however, are three people who struggle very hard to figure out what love is and how to find it. Hulme won New Zealand's Pegasus Prize for Literature (1984) for The Bone People. Then the book went on to win the prestigious Booker Prize (1985).
