Limited to only 22 copies, 109pp., illustrated, folder contains 5 typed manuscripts from one of their stories or play published in this particular issue and signed by each William Saroyan, John Updike, George Garrett, and James Purdy. Morse Peckham's page is not signed but with a few corrections. The Texas Arts Journal is published only four times a year and the above named writer's are part of their contributors. A fine collection housed in a custom slipcase and quite scarce.

Chatto & Windus, London, 1934. Book. Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. The first English-language edition. 8vo. 295pp. Brown cloth lettered in gold at the spine and with a small gilt decoration. Cloth a little spotted and with just a trace of wear to several extremities. A touch of spotting to the endpapers and browning to a blank preliminary and concluding leaf, and the publisher's top edge stain just a little patchy. Really quite a nice, crisp copy, lacking the uncommon dust wrapper. The basis for John Huston's magnificent Bogart movie, this Creighton translation precedes Traven's own translation which he produced for the American issue (Knopf, 1935 - the author is on record stating his preference for this version)..

First edition 1st printing, Near Fine book with mild pushing at sine ends, light shelf wear and touch of soiling bottom edges; in a Fine minus jacket with mild rubbing back panel and slight curling and age yellowing along edges of white portions. A very nice copy of his second book that has been signed by Gardner on the first front end page (flyleaf).

Set during the Rebellion, two soldiers from the enemy's camp, held as hostages and entertained in the friendliest way, are led out to be reluctantly shot by their host; a wife betrays her brutal husband to the enemy; and more. A very nice copy bound in blue gray cloth lettered and decorated in gilt, spine lettering gilt, a couple of corners lightly bumped, a near fine copy in very good in unclipped pictorial dust jacket with light chipping and soiling to spine and edge of rear panel, an abrasion to upper right corner of front panel . A scare work of this author's first book especially in dust jacket.

Very fine in a dust jacket with minor wear, else fine. The jacket is much more attractive than usual for this book. The scarcest of Welch's novels, especially in nice condition.
