Jewish and Egyptian antiquities; biblical scenery; manners and customs of the ancients; natural history; Bible Aids for special prayer; A History of the Jewish worship; Biblical antiquities; Recent explorations in Bible lands; History of Herod, king of the Jews, etc. Over 100,000 marginal references. A concise history of all religious denominations, and many other important and useful aids in the study of the holy Scriptures. All written to increase the interest in and simplify the study of the word of God. By the following eminent biblical writers and authors..... etc... The whole embellished with nearly 1800 illustrations, on steel, wood, and in colors. Published Rockford Illinois; Chandler brothers, 1876 •A very large full leather bound Bible measuring 12 and three-quarter inches tall by 10 and three-quarter inches wide by 5 inches thick. •Quite heavy, about 15 lbs. •Full leather carved front and rear covers all ornately illustrated and titled in gold/gilt, including wrap-around dentelles and all page edges. •Stiff moire’ end papers, very ornate gilt title page, see photo. •The ornate and gilt 10 Commandments page which precedes the title and copyright pages has its own copyright date with the library of Congress in 1873. ?Also, this particular Edition was the winner of the Centennial Award Medal at the international exhibition in Philadelphia, 1876. ?That exhibition was world- renowned being on the 100th anniversary of the forming of the United States of America. ?Both the medal of honor and the diploma of merit were awarded to this particular edition on September 27, 1876. ?Other awards included; ?The American Institute exhibition in New York, November, 1873. ?The Cincinnati Industrial Exhibition, 1874. ?The Franklin Institute Exhibition, Philadelphia, November 24, 1874. • NOTE: As a rare & used book dealer for some 25 years I have seen many of this type of Bible, having sold approximately a dozen myself and seen over 100 at shows, book fairs, and other dealers book shops. This particular one is the most well illustrated I have likely ever seen. Absolutely Beautiful, bright, and near fine. The only problems I found with it were a small concussion around the center front foredge going into the pages a bit, photo showing and some page rends around the center of the book. The Center page folding colored illustration has a short tear on the bottom edge and A bit of a chipping along the first fault line, seen in the photographs. The Photograph frames in the rear are clean and empty, ready for your Family Photos! Also the Genealogy pages are all clean and unused. Births, Deaths, Marriage, etc... .
