43, Fleet St, London: George E.Eyre and William Spottiswoode PROVENANCE: THIS COPY WAS PREVIOUSLY OWNED BY DOROTHY HARTLEY (4 October 1893 - 22 October 1985) was an English social historian, illustrator, and author.29cm x 22cm approx [ Includes binding dimensions ] In Full black leather, gilt title to Spine, with 5 compartments. Blind ruling to front cover with ornate gilt decoration outwith, bevelled edges. Binding tight, if front hinge showing. Covers rubbed at extremities, Sturdy volume, pages all edged in gilt. Wedding Gift Label to front pastedown dated 1877 Presented to Miss Eddy on the occasion of her wedding to Mr E.T Hartley 18th July 1877. Dorothy Hartley was the youngest of three children of the headmaster of the school, the Rev Edward Tomson Hartley (1849-1923) and his wife, Amy Lucy, née Eddy (1853-1932). [ undated copy] Tight and clean internally, occasional foxing the brass clasp to outer edge is somewhat damaged but present p.1244. Text within two columns.
