Walpole, NH: Anson Whipple, 1815. Title page dated 1815. The first Bible printed in New Hampshire, also referred to as The Walpole Bible after the town in which it was printed by Isaiah Thomas' son-in-law on Thomas' printing equipment. Includes the Old and New Testaments and the Apocrypha. Full sheep leather with black spine label, just under 9 inches tall and 2.75 inches thick. Printed in double column format. Fair condition with considerable external wear, sound text block, final page and free endpapers absent. Title page is tenusously attached, creased and worn around the edges with pencil notes about previous ownership. Ends at Revelation XXI:23, missing one text page at the end as well as both free endpapers. Name of Caroline Hamilton written on the front endpapers, title page and ownership block on the verso of the title page, name of Caroline Beman inside rear cover. Handy tip for dealing with rusty nails mounted inside front cover. Pages age-toned but clean, a handful of pages with very minor old dampstains to the outer margins.. Hard Cover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
