VG-. 13 Cms x 19.5 cms. 284 (to 6 in roman)+28 (January 1875 pub. catalogue)+(4) (pub.puffs for 2 series); main fault is cracking to end-gutters, front quite firm but rear opening at top, large heraldic KIng's College London prize plate (1878) to front endpaper, open crease to lower corners of front endpaper & half-title, some browning to pub.catalogue, otherwise internally clean, tight & unmarked; gilt-dec.covers clean and attractive, scattered cloth blistering to back, slight routine rubbing only to extremeties. A nice copy of this foray into classical scholarship by William Gladstone, will try to mitigate gutter problem a little when ordered. Note: quoted non-UK shipping rates are calculated for 500-700 gram net weight, cost will be modified up or down as appropriate outside this range.

As well as being Prime Minister, Gladstone was a good Greek scholar, which occupied him when out of office.
