No date. Ca. late 1960s.. Folded sheet featuring maps of central Kowloon and Victoria, each 7 x 6 3/4 inches and, on verso, a color pictorial map of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and Lantau Island. When fully open, the color map measures 7 x 13 1/2 inches. The new airport at Chek Lap Kok is not pictured on the map, thus establishing a pre-1998 date of publication, while the Plover Cove Reservoir is shown, which was competed in 1968. Other infrastructure projects suggest a late 1960s publication date. When held to the light, four small holes can be seen at the center fold of the color map, indicating staple binding in an unidentified publication. In sum: three interesting maps in very good clean condition. .

Description:
Kowloon: Relief Map Service, [c.1950].. Large unique large scale hand-crafted relief map of plaster on hard-board made for the British Navy measuring 85 x 122 cm, 91 x 130 overall. An important historic record showing the shoreline of Hong Kong before much of the major land reclamation projects undertaken to expand the limited supply of usable land in Hong Kong. Indeed around 25 percent of all developed land in Hong Kong is built on reclaimed land. From the iconic Hong Kong skyline to the industrial hubs in the New Territories, reclamation has been a key element in turning Hong Kong from a tiny fishing village into a world city, transforming 67sq km of sea and swamp into prime real estate.
