First edition in English of Cortazars masterpiece, an iconic work of the Latin American Boom ranking with García Márquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude and Borges' short stories. This is also the first book translated into English by Gregory Rabassa, for which he won the inaugural U.S. National Book Award for Translation..
A fine copy. Very light foxing to bottom edge and endpapers. Jacket chipped at bottom of front panel, small nick along front edge, spine panel a bit dulled, price intact ($6.95).

JULIO CORTAZAR was born in 1914 in Belgium to Argentinean parents, grew up in Buenos Aires, and moved to Paris in 1951. An acclaimed and influential novelist, short-story writer, poet, playwright, and essayist, he was also a human rights advocate and amateur jazz musician. He died in Paris in 1984.
