Presentation binding by Sangorski & Sutcliffe of full tan gilt calf, upper cover with gilt device of Christopher Robin and Pooh, spine in six compartments with small character devices of Pooh, Tigger, etc., turn-in stamped "Xmas 1929" with blue morocco book label to pastedown; joints slightly dry and rubbed, some spot of staining to upper cover. First edition, Daphne Milne's copy in an attractive gift binding. Shepard, Ernest. First American edition. Illustrated by Ernest Shepard. 1 vols. 8vo (190 x 125 mm). Milne to His Wife at Christmas. A.A. Milne was fond of giving copies to family, including a set of the Pooh books inscribed for his brother. Given the gift binding and Christmas 1929 date, the present is no doubt another gift from the author to his wife from his most famous and successful series.
Synopsis
The House at Pooh Corner (1928) is the second volume of stories about Winnie-the-Pooh, written by A. A. Milne and illustrated by E. H. Shepard. It is notable for the introduction of the character Tigger, who went on to become a prominent figure in the Disney Winnie the Pooh franchise. The title comes from a story in which Winnie-the-Pooh and Piglet build a house for Eeyore. In another story the game of Poohsticks is invented.
