Pioneering woman naturalist's guide to ferns, illustrated throughout with pen-and-ink illustrations from original drawings by Misses Satterlee & Smith, along with photographs, in 215 pages, including Index & a guide to technical terms + 6 additional pages of ads for other books in rear. Orig. published in 1899, this is the Seventh Printing of that First Edition. Hardcover book has deep green cloth-covered boards with a lighter fern design & gilt/black lettering & design to front & spine. Condition is VG: exceptionally clean, binding straight & strong, pages creamy white with a whisper of age-appropriate tanning. Tissue overlay on frontispiece is intact. Former owner's name in neat pen to ffep; NO other writing/underlining/highlighting; NOT ex-lib. Flaws: very minor edgewear, bumped corners. No DJ, as issued by publisher (never came with one).
