About This Item

Charles Scribner's Sons, US / The Publishers' Syndicate, Toronto, 1899. First Edition. Hardcover. Acceptable. 215 pages. Brown cloth with titles in gilt and black, and decorative fern designs in green; cloth toned, lightly age-soiled with gentle edgewear. Binding in poor condition, cracked to inner hinges and at intermittent points through the text. First signature is loose from the fly leaf through copyright page, but present, laid-in; FFEP appears to have been adhered to front paste down to keep the signature connected, but there is now a neat split in the gutter between FFEP and fly leaf. Binding is fragile following the signature, but intact from dedication page through remainder of the text. Prior owner's information penned to fly leaf. Occasional pressed ferns appear laid-in, with minimal-to-no toning or discoloration to adjacent pages. Extensive notes to blank pages at the rear and endsheets, though the text is free of any prior owner's markings. Stored and sold in protective sleeve. Photographs available upon request.
