Signed limited first edition, one of only 50 numbered copies signed by Johnson and Dowd, this copy with a previously unpublished mounted illustration of a pirate by Pyle made available by Frank Schoonover for this edition. 12.5'' x 9.5''. Original quarter white cloth, brown paper boards with pictorial paste-on. Top edge and fore-edge uncut. Illustrated by Pyle with 22 beautiful tipped-in color plates plus a profusion of black-and-white images. xviii, 346 pages. Signed by Johnson and Dowd on limitation page. Bottom margin of title wrinkled from bookplate pasted onto its verso (the copyright page), else a bright copy with no edge wear and with the white spine clean.
