About This Item

New York, NY Crown Publishers, 1985. Hardcover First Ed; First Printing indicated. First Ed; First Printing indicated. Illustrated by Deborah Kogan Ray. Very Good+ in Very Good DJ: Book shows indications of very light use: just a touch of wear to extremities; binding square and secure; text clean. DJ shows light wear to extremities; closed tears at edges; mild rubbing; price unclipped; mylar-protected. No longer 'As New', but overall remains clean, sturdy, presentable. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. 32pp. Hardback with DJ. A short and sweet encounter with a not-so-scary ghost just outside the front door. Reissued 25 years after its first appearance, Emily Herman's tale shows costumed children partying indoors, when an apprehensive glance out the windows confirms the annual appearance of a ghostly figure Hubknuckles. The eldest girl bravely goes into the orchard to confront the 'haint', and is pleasantly surprised when a nod and a bow leads to a brief, memorable dance amid the apple trees. Deborah Kogan Ray's pencil sketches provide much of the gentle, nostalgic tale of a memorable experience overcoming childhood fears. A fine addition to seasonal collections, suitable for early readers or as a shared read-aloud by those looking for a quick, safe Halloween treat.
