About This Item

New York and Toronto: Rinehart & Company, Inc, 1946. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good+. 8vo. Pp. 307. Bound in full orange cloth with diagnoal rules printed in blue, gilt lettering stamped on spine. The erasure shadow of a previous seller's price on front pastedown. In a superb Arthur Hawkins, Jr. dust jacket showing light wear and slight chips. The Arthur Hawkins dust jacket design is superb, showing towering, impersonal skyscrapers dwarfing two yellow cabs. The design befits the novel's narrative arc as it underscores the dehumanizing aspects of Madison Avenue. MGM adapted the novel to the screen, with Clark Gable and Deborah Kerr in the leads, and a staggering supporting cast. Dust jacket is now preserved in a clear, removable archival protector.
