Hardcover. Fine. 8vo. Original boards, spine labels. New York, 1839. First Edition. 2 volumes. Laid in is a 3-page ALS from Longfellow to My Dear Sir, dated Cambridge, Nov. 23, 1880. The letter expresses gratitude for the gift of a book of Selections from Longfellows poems assembled by school children. It reads in part, I hasten to thank you for it, and through you all my young friends, whose names are written in it. Please say to them how highly I am gratified by this mark of their esteem and consideration . . . With 2 bookplates, including that of Mary Lecomte du Noüy. Some light staining and peeling to boards; head and heel of spines chipped; former signature erased; some foxing and minor ink stains; o/w Very Nice. Both volumes enclosed in red morocco box.
