About This Item

New York: Random House, 1956. First Edition, First Printing. Decorative Boards. Near Fine/Very Good ++. A pleasing First Edition, First Printing of this Dr. Seuss title. Overall the book condition is Near Fine with a sound and intact jacket that has conserved a vibrant and good looking edition. The book has minor rubbing along the edges although the decorative boards have been well preserved and are quite clean. Minor fading of color on the front free end paper. Minor pencil markings on the verso and half title page, appear erased but not completely. A previous owner's inscription in black ink on the verso dated Aug 19-58. Otherwise a smooth and clear pre title and title page. Pages throughout book display sharp and bright animations and text. Top page edges display some dotting but are intact and without chipping. Dust jacket is protected by an archival jacket. Dust jacket contains all first edition points [Younger & Hirsch pp. 108-110]. Price of "250/250" appears to have been folded over without tearing and is intact, otherwise perfect front and back flaps. Extremely minor bumping along the top edges of jacket without tearing. Jacket displays some light soiling. Spine displays moderate sunning with a top chip of .25" and a bottom chip of .50", title still legible. Overall the book is in quite nice condition, protected by a dust jacket that is complete but shows wear. A great edition that would make a lively enhancement to any Dr. Seuss collection.

The overt social commentary found in the Sneetches and the Zax demonstrates that Dr.
