London: Edward Moxon, 1859. First Edition. Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Green cloth with stamped decoration to boards and spine; gilt lettering to spine. Yellow endpages. 8 pages of ads dated 1859 bound in to front of book. Spine browned, some slight fading to the cloth at upper edges of boards. Light foxing to the fore edges and to the last few pages. Inner hinges professionally repaired. Notes in pencil to front pastedown; gift inscription to the verso of front endpage.
Synopsis
The longest and most ambitious work of his career, Idylls is a reflection of Tennyson's lifelong interest in Arthurian themes. His personification of Arthur, the highest ideal of manhood and leadership, is achieved through a delicacy of phrase and metrical effect that are unmatched.
