About This Item

Hardcover. Very good. 112 engraved plates of balconies, friezes, pumps, balustrades, roses, ornaments, garnitures, coat hooks, stick stands, religious crosses and funeral ornaments and monuments, with weights and measurements, by Muffat-Joly & Leymarie, C. Bride, L. Chaumont, E. Laurent, A. Lemaitre and others, on tabs, and three additional plates tipped in at rear. Large folio (392 x 290m) orig. blue cloth, rebacked, some marking on covers, corners repaired, This famous foundry in the Haute Marne had offices and shops in Paris at the Rue de Lancry. As usual with these types of catalogues there are gaps in the numbering of the plates, the last being 509. They were bound using a selection of plates, often for a particular client. Most of the plates have at the head 'L.Denonvilliers' the name of the company before 1870 when it became associated with the Saleur brothers. Some plates presumably earlier printings have at the head 'L. Denonviliers Successeur d'Auguste Godard'. The range of their products is remarkable,as they print at the beginning of the catalogue 'Fontes de Fer de Toutes Especes'. The drawings are very detailed which would enable particular examples to be identified as this firm's work. No Jacket issued
