Iowa City, IA: State Historical Society of Iowa, 1975. Hardcover. Good/Published Without Dust Jacket. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. 580 pp. Tightly bound. Three of the four corners lightly bumped. I noticed about a dozen pages where the top page corners were dog eared. There are a few pages toward the end of the book, that were dog eared, that also have a few pen notations of things the previous owner found important. No ownership markings. Published without dust jacket. The primary reason for the lower "good" rating is because the brown boards show uneven discoloring. PLEASE consider this a good reading copy.

Features * This is the Smaller Reprint Edition of Andreas's 1875 Illustrated Historical Atlas of the State of Iowa. This smaller format is 12 1/4 inches tall by 9 1/4 inches wide. The maps and lithographs are reproduced in black and white. There are County Histories, and a list of the patrons who sponsored the original atlas. There were 9 slightly different atlases published in 1875, one for each Congressional District. They each had several pages of slightly different lithographs for the District. This reprint includes all the lithos from all 9 Congressional Districts. Leather binding, map endpapers, index, plats, county maps, biographies of notables, etc.
Bibliography: This is item number 270 in the Iowa History and Culture bibliography by Dawson and Hudson.CONDITION : VG /No dust jacket. This book is in very good + condition. No underlining, no highlighting, no inscriptions, no bookplates, and no annotation by previous owners.

Superb and tight if undated (1970) facsimile reprint of this large classic 1875 reference, originally released in a bewildering variety that differed by congressional district, offering slightly differing lithographs. This fine facsimile is ably introduced and placed in context by noted Iowa historian William J. "Steamboat Bill" Petersen. Alfred T. Andreas (1839-1900) is most often remembered for his 3-volume "History of Chicago" and other state and county histories.
