Original red-cloth boards with gilt lettering and blind-tooled decoration in vg. condition; spine shows some darkening with age, a little wear.

Illustrated with hand-coloured plates by George Brettingham Sowerby II (1812-1884) , British naturalist, illustrator, and conchologist. Each plate with accompanying, unnumbered explanatory leaf of letterpress. Includes marine, terrestrial and freshwater shells. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .

Fair/No Jacket. sm 4to. xv pages, followed by 24 colored plates and related text leaves; Blind stamped cloth covers, with gilt stamped lettering; All edges gilded; Cloth covers are worn along edges and on spine covers; Lettering on top cover remains good; Many small penciled checks throughout contents and on plates, and occasional penciled marginalia; Plate I shows a couple of small chips on outside edge; Plates XI and XII show creases at upper outside corners, not affecting images; Contents and plates are otherwise in good condition, though with occasional very light smudges; Collated and complete.
