Black and white illustrations, 660+724pp, Index to Engravings for Vol. L, 16 1/4 x 11 3/4 inches, leather spine and corners with cloth-covered boards (hardbound). Cover extremities rubbed, leather spine has deteriorated with pieces missing, front hinges/joints split but still attached and rear boards detached on both volumes. Interior tight and clean with occasional light foxing, missing three leaves (pp 45/46 and 271-274) all croquet related, soft creases to a few pages, a few loose pages. FEATURES: Paris International Exhibition, issues depict the Opening onwards with numerous illustrations (volume two carries on with topic to closing of exhibition). VOLUME L includes SINGLE PAGE ENGRAVINGS: Travelling between Vera Cruz and Mexico City; The Great Fire at Yokohama, Japan, Viewed from the Bluff (with text in upper and lower margins); images from the Atlantic Yacht Race; The Bourse, Paris and The Little Bourse, Paris; The Intercolonial Exhibition, Melbourne, Australia; The Holborn Valley Viaduct; The Oxford Crew and The Cambridge Crew (with article on the University Boat Race between them); The Reporters' Room and The Reporters' Gallery at the House of Commons; two views of Cairo; HALF PAGE ENGRAVINGS: The Fire at the Crystal Palace; Halt of British and Japanese Troops on a Field-Day Near Yokohama; Scene from "Antony and Cleopatra" (with Miss Glyn); DOUBLE PAGE ENGRAVINGS (tipped in): City of Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand (accompanying article on page 342); Interior of the Proposed Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences, Kensington; ARTICLES: Capture of a Slave Ship off Madagascar, Africa: Bechuana Camp on Vaal River.
