London.: George C. Leighton.. 1875.. Firmly bound volume, three-quarter leather, 16 x 12 inches, 607 pp., index to engravings. Overseas editions of the paper on lighter paper, with the term "Foreign Postage" and "Registered at the General Post-Office for Transmission Abroad" printed on the masthead. The volume is illustrated throughout with black and white wood-engravings, single and double page, and with numerous fold-out supplements. Two of the twenty five "Extra Supplements" listed in the index are not present: one of Bishop Coleman and one of Reynard's Holiday. Pages 543-546 appear never to have been bound in; pages 601-612 are bound slightly out of order. Two inch triangular tear to sheet 509/510. Several of the papers were apparently folded at one stage, and there is occasional light creasing, but overall the issues are in very good condition. Light foxing to endpapers. Topics include: CHINA: Chinese Funeral Customs, the Tomb of Yung-Lo, Ming Tomb; Chinese at San Francisco; Peace between China and Japan. Map of the Proposed Route to China from British Burmah.
