A finely bound collection of works by Lydia Huntley Sigourney [1791-1865] who was a popular and prolific writer in the early and mid 19th century. Her themes included death, responsibility, religion and female conduct. The illustrations by Darley are fine and engraved by "American Artists." and tissue guarded.
8vo, 408pp + 8pp ads, plates tissue guarded, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt. A gift binding of brown embossed leather, spine in six compartments with gilt title on spine and front board. Corners with a hint of rubbing.
