John Weale, London, 1840. Revised Edition. Hardcover. Fair Condition/No Dust Jacket. A large volume with, but separate from, contemporary covers and with spine-cover missing. Covers are marked and well-rubbed, corners are worn. Frontis (of James Watt), together with front end-paper, is detached and rear end-paper is almost detached. Small decorative bookplate on inside of front cover for Cambridge University Cruising Club Library. Frontis and front end-papers are foxed and very ragged on all three outer edges. Most of the plates are foxed to some degree, some plate are very darkened, others are much less so. Some of the fold-out plates are damaged: these are 53 and 54 (partial splits on the folds), 51 (large diagonal tear and partial split on the fold). The title-page states 125 engravings. The volume contains an engraved frontis and 123 numbered plates. There are 25 fold out plates, a small quantity of numbered plates are two to a page. The publisher’s numbering has a number of anomalies with double numbering, insertion of additional plates and missing numbering all occurring. The plates here are numbered: 1-9, 10a, 10b, 11-54, 55a, 55b, 56a, 56b, 57-66, 67a, 67b, 68-69, 70a, 70b, 71- 81, 82, 82a, 82b, 83-90, 91, 91, 93-110, 111, 111a, 111, 112, 115, 117. Many plates have "John Weale Architectural Library, 59 High Holborn" engraved close to the lower edge.
