First publication in book form of the author's letters from a Mediterranean trip - a journey which took him to Madeira, Granada, Seville, Tunis, Carthage, Athens, Constantinople, Cairo, Thebes, Abydos, Luxor, Capri, and elsewhere. Full of interesting sidelights and comments - for example, Henry Timkin, the inventor of the revolutionary tapered roller bearings, and his wife were among the passengers and this leads to a digression on the need in California of faster transcontinental railroads; a brief comment "oil makes the world go round. Will oil be the cause of a future conflict?" Illustrated with 22 half-tone photographic plates by the author, with titled tissue guards. 117 pp. Map endpapers.
