Strasbourg: P.H. Heitz, 1960. First Edition. Very good. 8vo. [4], 107, [1] pp. Original printed wrappers, edges uncut. NOT ex-library! Compiled by the unsurpassed authority on early printing and humanism in Strasbourg and Alsace-Lorraine. For obvious reasons, the present work is indispensable for all students and scholars of Alsatian humanism. ¶ The present catalogue lists 718 Strasbourg books printed in the 15th century. Ritter gives author / title / printer / date / and references to other sources where the work is described in detail. The work is published as Part III of the "Repertoire Bibliographique des Livres imprimes en Alsace."

A note on Ritter's presentation: the names of German speaking authors are given in their native German, but all others appear in Latin. Therefore, we look for Petrus Paludanus (not Pierre de la Palud); Bertrandus de Turre (not Petrus Aureolus); and Guilelmus Parisiensis (not Guillaume d'Auvergne, Bishop of Paris).

Thick 8vo. 13, [2], 926 pp. Original printed wrappers, a little shelf-worn, edges mostly uncut (text with some toning throughout as is true in all copies). NOT ex-library! Francois Ritter remains the unsurpassed authority on early Strasbourg printing and humanism, and this is his masterpiece. ¶ The Strasbourg Municipal Library was basically burned to the ground in 1870, and thousands of incunables (many unique), precious medieval manuscripts, and irreplaceable archives were incinerated. Former librarian Rod. Reuss (1870-1895) made great progress in rebuilding the library. Le premier est la traduction du texte le plus célèbre de François Viète, "In artem analyticem isagoge" (1591), dans lequel il établit les symboles algébriques. Le second, les "notes sur la logistique spécieuse" est la traduction de "Ad logiscticen speciosam, notae priores", publié seulement en 1631. Ce sont deux tirés à part du 'Bullettino di bibliografia e di storia delle scienze matematiche et fisiche'. Envoi signé sur les titres : "Ex dono autoris. F.
