About This Item

Norman, Oklahoma: University of Oklahoma Press, 1990. Paperback. NF contents; covers have light shelf wear to edges and a wrinkle to back; textile museum ex-lib. with a few marks, including spine sticker.. Color-illustrated tan wraps with red lettering. xx, 232 pp. with 16 pp. color illustrations and 64 bw figures. Volume 156 in The Civilization of the American Indian series. "Fantastic study of clothing worn in six regions of Mesoamerica's Postclassic period right before the arrival of Europeans. More than just clothing, this series goes in depth into the iconography from the codices to analyze each garment that is presented. To better organize the analysis, the corpus of clothing examples shown in this book are broken down into five varieties in which the clothes may be worn. The examples mentioned come straight from the books (codices) from each culture presented. Although most are black and white, there are some beautiful color plates in the book as well. This book is a rare study and an insightful look into clothing styles that have either disappeared or transformed themselves to the present day - Since some indigenous clothes, like huipiles are still worn to this day." - Caban's Reviews; Seems like an excellent reference for anyone interested in Native American studies, ethnology, or textiles.
