Head and tail frittered, now re-inforced inside channel; all corners worn 7 x10mm, now restored; gold title and illustration on spine faded and tarnished; scratch over front cover about 130mm long has broken the cloth in 4 places each 4-5mm long, now restored. Frontis had a tissue guard, now removed; all pages yellowed and foxing is fairly common throughout; water stains in lower hinge area not exceeding 40x40mm, not affecting the text area but pages wavy from dampness. School prize presentation plate from Musgrave Road School June 1901. All edges gilt; front cover illustrated in bright gold and black; rear cover has debossed lineations; decorative eps; frontis and 24 full page b&w lithographed plates; b&w text illustrations throughout. Please expect some extra postage. RARE. First Edition. Hard Cover Bluey-Green Boards. Covered in archival plastic.

All books with dust jackets/ wraps are completely covered in 50 or 75 micron High Density PolyEthylene (= "plastic" = archival acetate film), as are books without dust jackets costing more than US$20. Soft-covers and hard-covers without Dj s are covered in adhesive plastic. While we have neither insects nor dampness in our shop, you might find that the total plastic cover keeps both at bay. Covering the whole book means that the common edge-wear described by so many dealers is mostly absent in our books. Any "plastic" is easily removable, it is not adhered to the book nor to the dust jacket. We do not use sellotape nor any other tape which discolours. We restore books where necessary and describe ONLY EXCEPTIONS to a perfect state. Faults in expensive books are described in huge detail. WHEN RESTORED the majority of "faults'' are visible only with great difficulty and certainly NOT in an image. To avoid misleading you we include few images. Please be guided by the very full descriptions. If no faults are described in a cheaper book, please be guided by the Condition. RESTORATION SERVICE. We restore any book younger than 1800 making your grotty, broken old books look like beautifully-cared-for precious old books. DUST JACKETS IN FACSIMILE. We provide colour copies of any DJ in our stock. Please ask for quotes, images & descriptions.
