About This Item

London: Sampson Low, Marston and Co, 1903. First UK Edition. Octavo. 268 pp. illustrated with black and white photographic images. The author travels deep into the canyon water ways of the desert streams to learn more about the other peoples lives; the Navahoes, Wallapais, Havasupais and Hopies, whose lifes are strange, weird, wild and fascinating as that of any people of earth. The photographs he took are quite nice showing these people, the area which they live and how they lived while also revealing much more of the Painted Desert area. Bound in tan pictorial cloth depicting a native American on a white horse, lettered and accents in red, spine lettering and top edge gilt, spine faded, some small edge tears to spine ends and light wear to bumps to corners, endpapers browned. From the library of Edward Sandford Burgess, American botanist (1855-1928) with his bookplate. A very good copy.
