Another move in the Great Game, checking Russia’s ambitions in South Asia. “Still no news of civil war in Afghanistan.” Thomas George Baring, 2nd Baron Northbrook (1826-1904), Governor General of India (1872-76), First Lord of the Admiralty (1880-1885). “... Mr. Forsyth, although unable to return himself via Wakhan & Badakshan has managed to effect our object of obtaining better information as to Sirikot and its neighbourhood by pushing on a party there. The information seems to me to be satisfactory as it shows that Wokhan marches with Kashgar, and that there is not debatable land between.”
