He obtained first position in the State and a State competitive examination; third position in CBSE in India and third position in a State PSC and fifth in the University. Dr. Shrivastava taught while in service for 40 calendar years and was Professor, Head and Chairman of Economics in Bhopal (now known as Barkatullah) University, Bhopal. He is still a visiting Professor in Management Institutes and has taught 49th calendar year batch. Dr. Shrivastava was adviser to the Government of Madhya Pradesh. He supervised the work of hundreds of M.Phil, M.A. and MBA dissertations/term papers.
