Starting with the late 19th century "... the great names Galle, Tiffany, Webb and Lalique. It then tells the story of the search for forms in the early years of the 20th century – the Swedish designers the Dutch de Stijl group and other European glass-makers. In 1925 the Paris exhibition pointed to 'l'Esprit Nouveau' of Le Corbusier and the new era. Subsequent chapters bring the historical introduction up to the present day. The illustrations provide a lively pictorial anthology. They are arranged in eleven groups by subject, first a survey from 1872 1940, then by modern glass in all its brilliant ferrite showing, with many hitherto unpublished photographs, some of the best work Works being produced today." -- from front fold over panel blurb.
