Engraved frontispiece, title-page printed in red & black, 2 tables, one full-page plate, superb double hemisphere of the World showing California as an island (in addition a separate full-page map of North America also showing California as an island) with 42 MAPS. Full calf recently been rebacked with raised bands and morocco label. A few maps with minor creasing in the margins, lovely dark crisp impressions of the maps, which have been cleverly tipped-in on a blank sheet then folded, so they are easily examined without risk of damage when unfolding them. Three maps have contemporary hand colouring, Europe, Spain, Sweden. Great Briton is slightly creased and shaved along the lower edge. Wonderful quarto atlas, which was a standard work for many years hence the number of editions. It shows an early depictation of California as an island.
