About This Item

Shrink-wrapped slipcase with hardcover book inside. Front of slipcase shows image from front dust jacket with author's name, book title, and drawing of man's face. Back of slipcase has picture of author. Book and dust jacket are presumed to be overall in Fine condition since book and slipcase are still shrink-wrapped.

First Edition Library presumed First Edition, First Printing since book and slipcase are still shrink-wrapped. First Edition Library reprinted many classic novels; the only difference between this copy and the original is that it comes in a slipcase and has statement about publication on copyright page. Though this is not the very first printing of this novel, this facsimile is in excellent condition.

Ellison's "masterpiece about the plight of an African-American man" that won the National Book Award for fiction. Hardcover with dust jacket, but dust jacket protected by shrink-wrap and not archival Mylar cover.

Even though Ralph Ellison's novel Invisible Man is sometimes featured on banned books lists, it remains a consistent staple on many high school reading curriculums. In the novel, Ellison laments the feeling of hopelessness and invisibility that many Black men experience in the United States, and it elegantly explores the themes of racism and bigotry in ways that are both unsettling and accessible.

About Sherlock Joe's Book Hunting

The bookstore will be closed for a vacation of book-hunting in the Pacific Northwest from March 1 - 9, 2024.

The game is afoot!

I focus on modern first edition, first printings, but have been lately finding first editions, later printings of older novels in my inventory. I'm also highlighting a lot of signed books that I've found.

I will also gladly search for and offer well-priced books of all kinds. If there's something you'd love to have, either send me a message here or go to and Open a Case!
