London: Arthur Pearson, 1897. First edition with all the correct points. A scientist invents a way to change a body's refractive index to that of air, rendering himself invisible but is unable to reverse the process. Red cloth stamped in gilt on front and spine and with black-stamped illustration on front. Pages darkened as usually seen, more so on endpapers; small chip to front endpaper fore edge, pastedowns lightly foxed and spine considerably sunned but binding tight and corners still crisp; altogether about very good.
Synopsis
Invisible Man is a novel written by HG Wells, first published as a serial in Pearson's Weekly in 1897 before being published as a book by C. Arthur Pearson in 1897. The story follows the scientist Griffith, who through experimentation has become the Invisible Man of the title. Griffith's initial, almost comedic, adventures are soon overshadowed by the bizarre streak of terror he unleashes upon the inhabitants of a small village, and the novel is noted for its horror, suspense and psychological nuance.
