Hardcover. 8vo, 21cm, 2nd edition, with considerable additions, in 2 volumes, xxiv,496 & xiii,[i],573pp., with 17 hand coloured lithograph plates, indexes, bound in contemporary middle brown calf, gilt ruled raised bands, blind borders in the panels, gilt spine titles, brown cloth boards, a fine set attractively bound. (Mt) Major W.A. McDill's copy with his signature on the front endpaper, co-author of "The History of the Royal Canadian Engineers. A very detailed Corps history from 1772 to 1855, covering service in all parts of the world, from the American Revolution to the Crimean War. Thomas Connolly, Quartermaster-Sergeant of the Corps, has included extensive information and biographies of not only officers but also other ranks. Service in Canada is described throughout, particularly the building of the Rideau Canal (1827-1832) by two companies of the Corps under the command of Colonel By. The illustrations are a series of uniform plates, in vivid colour, of the Corps throughout its history.
