Bound in publisher's navy blue cloth, gilt lettering imprinted on spine, gilt insignia of the Iron Brigade and its constituent regiments on front board. Semi-glossy dj, white background with black/gold/blue photo of the brigade's brimmed "slouch" hat. Front endpaper features map of where members of the brigade came from (Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin); rear endpaper shows map of where the brigade fought. Xviii pp prelim material, 412 numbered pp, 16 glossy b&w unnumbered pp throughout text, plus two blank unnumbered at end. Maps (by Wilson K. Hoyt III), photos, appendices (counties from which brigade members originated, commanders and officers, biographical note, uniform of the brigade, source materials for battle of Brawner Farm); notes, bibliography, index. Condition notes: quite a nice unmarked first edition; corners bumped and spine ends rolled, edgeware and fading; minor soiling to textblock edges. Half title page shows evidence of former folding. The merely 'good' DJ is unfortunately price-clipped (twice, front flap), the white background shows soiling readily; numerous small chips and tears esp at folded ends of spine. Now sheathed in mylar.
