by Kennedy, William

Condition: See description

New York: Viking Press, 1983. First edition. First edition of the final novel in Kennedy's acclaimed Albany trilogy of novels. Winner of the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award. A near fine copy in dustwrapper. First issue book and dustwrapper. This editor Peggy Brooks' copy with her handwritten name in pencil to the front endpaper. Laid in to this copy is an interesting typed letter from Kennedy to Brooks dated 2/4/83 and signed off simply as "Bill" In it he notes the MacArthur genius award that he won on the strength of his fiction and goes on to talk about the enthusiastic reviews for Ironweed. He specifically mentions some minor changes he made to the text after the version that he had sent to Brooks. He also talks about his family and his next book which will be a non-fiction history of Albany. The letter is on Kennedy's Cornell University letterhead and included is the hand-addressed envelope that was sent to Brooks. Terrific association copy.

Ironweed is a 1983 novel by William Kennedy. It received the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and is part of Kennedy's Albany Cycle. It placed at number ninety-two on the Modern Library list of the 100 Best Novels written in English in the 20th Century.
