New York, New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1905. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Good. Octavo, 8 1/2" tall, 324 pages, gilt titles and top fore-edge, blue cloth; b&w illustrations. Previous owner's bookplate on front endpaper as well as signature (with date 1905). A good+, clean, likely unread (some signatures uncut) hardcover edition, with minor shelf wear and rubbing at the corners, but backstrip cloth is sunned with color faded and with fraying to cloth at ends of the backstrip; gilt title on front panel bright; hinges and binding solid, paper lightly yellowed.

She wrote about her life as the wife of a French diplomat. Mary moved to France in 1871, where she met her eventual husband. During World War I, she helped raise funds for soldiers and refugees. Mary was the author of Letter of a Diplomat's wife (1902), Italian letters of a Diplomat's wife (1904), Chateau and Country Life in France (1909), and My First Years as a Frenchwoman (1914). In 1874, she married William Henry Waddington (1826-1894) in Paris.
