Gray pictorial publisher’s cloth, cover art of hunters on a horse-drawn sledge in the snow shooting at wolves in black & white, decorated in black, gilt lettering front cover & spine, decorated endpapers (very minor rubbing, slight darkening to spine, some interior toning), still VG copy, w/ bookseller’s label on lower front pstedown of F. Quaintance, Bookseller, Stationer and Printer, Leamington. Early Sampson Low cheaper edition of this rousing tale of a young Royal Navy Midshipman, and his experiences in the events of the Crimean War, including being taken prisoner, escaping, the Battles of Alma, Balaklava, Inkerman, Tschernaya, and the siege of Sebastapol.
