Andover: Mark Newman, 1827. Hardcover. Very Good. Hardcover. Second Edition. German orientalist, Johann Jahn (1750 - 1816), was a professor of theology and oriental literature. He also wrote several theological and philological works. Very good in marbled full calf with dark red title label to spine panel. Minor rubbing to hinges and edges of boards with a few creases to leather on spine. Small dampstain to both covers and darkening to spine. Small loss to leather on front cover. Bookplate of Thomas Cradock Jensen to front free endpaper. Antiquated ink signature of previous owner to front pastedown and edge of title page. Includes folding map of Palestine, which was repaired with tape along one edge at one time. The tape has since fallen off and left a small browned area. Creasing to map along edges. Browning to endpapers and minor foxing throughout. Small passage in pencil to rear free endpaper. 573 pages including an index of Bible passages illustrated or alluded to in this work. REL/052217.
