Edinburgh and London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1902. First edition. First edition. Original pale brown cloth blocked in black and brown with superb illustrations of riders on horses by Joseph Simpson, known for his portraits of sporting subjects. An account of operations to suppress the Boer invasion of Cape Colony in 1901. The author took part in various drives chiefly in pursuit of the Boer commander De Wet. The narrative, based on the writer's war diary, was first published as a series of papers in Blackwood's Magazine. Scarce.
