About This Item

Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill, 1953. 1st. First Edition. Unpaginated, approximately 458 blank pages. Scarce Publisher's Dummy with penciled specifications to the binder on the first page. While the Publisher's (Salesman's) Dummy typically includes the title page and a few pages of text, and occasionally a representative illustration, with the rest of the pages blank, the pages of this copy are completely blank, with the exception of the penciled notations. Green cloth with gilt lettering; map illustrated endpapers; illustrated dustjacket. A fine copy. Morgan's most famous work was a direct result of the time spent in libraries while working for the OPA... it is perhaps the best fur trade biography yet written..' - Saunders 25. Here is vigorous account of one of the most important decades in the history of the fur trade. It is also a story of Indian ambush, of battle, murder and sudden death, of giths with grizzlies, of slogging through waterless desert sands under a blazing sun, through deep snow on mountain heights, of Spanish prisons, of survival agains fearful odds. (Rittenhouse, The Santa Fe Trail 425).
